3 Tips to Refresh, Update, and Customize Model Apartments

In any senior living community, the model apartment is an important selling tool that can be used to highlight the day-to-day experiences of living within the community’s walls. As the CEO of <a href="http://www.model55.com/" onclick="__gaTracker('send', 'event', 'outbound-article', 'http://www.model55 bupropion xl.com/’, ‘Model55’);” target=”_blank”>Model55, an interior design service provider for the senior living industry, I spend a lot of time evaluating how communities can improve their existing model apartments to sell themselves to both on-site and website visitors. One piece I always circle back to is the importance of updating and customizing the model apartment so that it speaks to both the adult child decision maker and the potential resident.

If you’re considering making improvements to your model apartment but you aren’t ready to invest in an entirely new design plan, here are some easy tips for customizing that you can apply right away.

How to Customize Model Apartments for Optimal Results

#1 Incorporate Social Elements throughout the Model.

If you’re thinking about making some changes to your senior living community’s model apartment, consider starting with already existing residents. Take photographs of senior living activities and events to frame and display within the model. This will add a detailed touch that both adult child decision makers and potential residents are sure to love.

You can also display the social and active parts of your community by incorporating activities calendars, newsletters, and transportation schedules in the model apartment. Pin these items on bulletin boards or hang them on fridges with colorful magnets. By making your model apartment reflect certain aspects of your residents’ daily lives as members of your community, you are showing rather than telling about important details that will make your senior living community stand apart from the competition.

By including current calendars, newsletters, and photographs of events within your community, you are also providing whoever gives tours of your model apartment great visual tools to support the information they will be discussing as they show potential residents around.

Just to give you a general idea of why this kind of customization is so important, check out the following stat from LifeLearn about visualization in marketing: “Research has shown that when people hear information, they are likely to remember only 10% of that information 3 days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information 3 days later.”

#2 Highlight the Value Add Provided By Your Community.

Do you know what makes your community stand apart from the rest? I recently wrote a blog on defining what makes your community different. In it, I discussed several ways to identify and use differentiators to increase revenue. If you have differentiators established, be sure to highlight them in a variety of ways throughout your model apartment.

For example, if your community uses the best and most updated technology to ensure your community members remain connected with their loved ones and support systems, be sure to incorporate tech-savvy aspects throughout the rooms of your model. If your dining program is exceptional, have fresh baked treats available to enjoy with coffee, tea, or cold beverages in the model apartment so prospects will linger and begin to imagine living in the space.

By incorporating the value-added aspects of your community into your model, you can create any number of memorable selling points that can attract residents to your community.

#3 Be Mindful of Local and National Events/Holidays.

Perhaps one of the easiest and most effective ways to customize your model apartment is to tailor its look-and-feel to national and local events your potential community members can relate to. An obvious example would be to decorate your model for the holiday season. If you’re not sure exactly how to go about creating an impactful winter wonderland, pull inspiration from social media sites like Pinterest, Instagram, or Twitter. These sites are great for novice decorators looking for inspiration because they are searchable by phrases and hash tags.

There you have it, a few simple ways to customize the look and feel of your model apartment. Remember, keeping your model current, clean, and customized are important to how much of an impact it can have on potential residents who visit your community for a tour.
